The present Verona derive from the roman city founded in the 1st century B.C. inside the bend of the river Adige. The roman origin of the city is testified by its architecture, urban planning, and by many historical buildings.
However, Verona offers also many interesting places date back to Middle Ages.
Due to the historical interest of its buildings, Verona was named in 2000 a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Verona is one of the main tourist destinations in north-eastern Italy. It has at least two main emblems: the Arena and the William Shakespeare's story of Romeo and Juliet.
The Arena is an ancient roman amphitheatre built in AD 30. It is the 3rd roman amphitheatre in Italy with respect to the size. During summer, inside the Arena the famous festival of opera and many concerts are given.
Verona is also the location chosen by William Shakespeare for his story about the love between Romeo and Juliet. In the city, you can visit some places related to this story. The main and famous one is the Juliet's house.
However, the city and its province offer many other interesting activities and places to tourists: at least ten churches (e.g., St. Zeno abbey), at least ten museums (e.g., Verona's Natural History Museum contains one of the most valuable collections of fossils and archaeological remains of Europe), amazing natural sites (e.g., Lake Garda, Giusti garden, Adige's park, Colombare's park, Regional Natural Park of Lessinia),  five famous wines (Valpolicella, Soave, Bardolino, Custoza and Lugana), typical food (e.g., risotto, horse meat, our typical aperitif: spritz with Aperol), night life (for example, visit Piazza delle Erbe in Saturday night).
We suggest you to visit Castel San Pietro, Lamberti Tower, and Ponte Pietra in order to enjoy amazing landscapes of Verona.
